1898 1898   Construction of a second hut. The Pavilion Cathrein, built by hotel manager Emil Cathrein from Fiesch had twin rooms!

1908 1908   Construction of the third hut. The SAC Grindelwald builds a further hut with generous support by the industrialist Gustav Hasler. 

During a short period of time, the three huts compete against each other in a very confined space:

- the Central Committee (CC) of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC)
- the hotel manager Emil Cathrein
- the SAC Grindelwald
       
1946 1946   Sale of the Pavilion Cathrein to the SAC Grindelwald for CHF 45'000.-

1976
1951   Rebuilding, extensions and structural improvements of the former Pavilion Cathrein.
       
1996 1996   Latest rebuilding for about 2 mio. Swiss Francs.
       
       

Staircase

       
1877 1877   The hut was 50m above the glacier (highest level).
       
1960 1960   Access to the hut at that time was via a wooden staircase!
       
2007 2007   1975 a steel staircase was put in place. Now in 2007 the hut is 150m above the glacier and the access staircase counts 433 steps.
