not only rock and ice...

In summer, it's not just rock and ice up here. The flora has adapted to the high alpine climate and if you take a closer look, you will discover many different plant species. Marmots, birds and sometimes even chamois or ibex can also be seen here.
The summer season starts in mid-June and lasts until the end of September. Numerous glacier hikers visit us in summer - usually accompanied by a mountain guide - and experience the fascinating glacier world up close. Alpinists are also attracted by the summits. Those who spend a day at the hut can have fun in the climbing garden, which is located directly behind the hut at the foot of the Faulberg, or climb the "Second Option Freerider". This three-pitch route leads along the Konkordiatreppe through beautiful rocks.

Access in summer

The Konkordiahütte is quite remote and all approaches inevitably lead over glaciers. There are no marked trails. If you do not have the necessary glacier experience, it is best to go with a mountain guide.
  • from Jungfraujoch:
    Time: 4-5 h/ Ascent: 160 m/ Descent: 760 m/ Distance 8 km
From the Jungfraujoch railroad station (3454 m), you can reach the Jungfraufirn via the Sphinx tunnel. Once you have left the tunnel, you find yourself in a high alpine glacier world. There are no marked routes. The appropriate equipment and knowledge of glaciers are mandatory. Descend via the Jungfraufirn to a first shallow glacier basin and on to the next basin at approx. 3200 m. Continue descending roughly parallel to the Trugberg into the flatter terrain to the south of P. 2763. This is where the Jungfraufirn and the Ewigschneefäld come together. Cross the moraine and then the glacier stream. After crossing the stream, ascend a little towards Ewigschneefeld and cross at the same altitude to the S foot of Grünegg. Here you cross the second moraine and reach the clearly visible metal stairs leading to the hut.
  • from the Fiescheralp:
    Time: 5-6 h/ Ascent: 1050 m/ Distance: 13 km
From the Fiescheralp, follow the road and through the tunnel to the restaurant Gletscherstube. From here, follow the path slightly downhill along the Märjelensee and enter the glacier at a suitable point south-east of P. 2266, where you leave the marked path and find yourself on the glacier. The necessary equipment and knowledge of the glacier are mandatory. Follow the Great Aletsch Glacier upwards, initially closer to the central moraine, later closer to the southern foot of the rock on which the hut is located (approx. 2660 m). Here you leave the glacier at a red marker to reach the southern path. Initially you follow the path tracks over lively moraine scree, later over short ladders and wooden steps up the steep slope for around 150 meters. Some passages are secured with ropes.

Glacier trekking

Various mountaineering schools and individual mountain guides offer glacier treks across the longest Alpine glacier in summer. These tours are also suitable for people without glacier experience. A good level of fitness is required, which allows for a 5-6 hour hike in somewhat thin air.
The glacier hikes usually start on the Jungfraujoch. Safely guided, you pass crevasses and then reach the Konkordiaplatz. From there, the stairs lead up to the Konkordiahütte. On the second day, you descend to the glacier via the southern path and follow the Great Aletsch Glacier to Lake Märjelen. The last section is a beautiful hike to the Fiescheralp. Depending on the mountain school's programme, there are also other options, such as a five-day traverse from the Grimsel Pass to the Lötschental.
Be inspired by the diverse ideas and programmes offered by these mountaineering schools. They are the absolute experts and can give you personalised advice.
Outdoor, Aletsch Bergsteigerzentrumt, Berg + Tal, Höhenfieber, Bergpunkt, Zermatters, Bergsteigerschule Riederalp, ... these and other schools offer glacier trekking.

Climbing garden

Directly behind the hut is a climbing garden with numerous, well-secured climbing routes. All belays, intermediate belays and abseiling points are available and equipped with solid bolts.
Material: 10 quickdraws, rope min. 50 m Abseil from the "Faulberg" 3x20m to the centre ledge, then via the foot descent back to the start.

Second Option "Freerider"

Not only above the hut, but also below, the rock quality is excellent and there is great potential for further routes. For example, we have set up the "Second Option Freerider", which runs along the Konkordi Staircase.
